Time to Get Serious

Written by David E. Smith

Do you know where you will be on Tuesday, November 4, 2014?

Hopefully amid the hustle and bustle of your otherwise normal and busy day you are planning to vote in the Illinois general election.

I don’t have to tell you how important the 2014 mid-term election is. It’s critical to our future that you take part in the political process and vote for those candidates that will uphold the basic principles that our state and nation were founded upon — those candidates who will fight for faith, family, and freedom.

For several years I have hoped that Christian conservatives would understand something vitally important, and I will reiterate and emphasis it here:

We don’t have a legislative or public policy problem in Illinois, we have a political problem.  If we don’t solve the political problem, we are only spinning our wheels and should not expect to realize any real or meaningful change.

Illinois has had a marriage amendment introduced every legislative session since 2003.  Year after year it has failed to be assigned to a committee for a hearing.  And year after year the same powers that refuse to allow it to be heard are placed back into power. Remember what happened to the Choose Life License plate effort and the Abortion Clinic Regulations Act? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!

Illinois is in desperate need of a Library Internet Filtering bill. Since 1998 many of us worked to push one through. In the years our bill passed the Illinois House, it was killed in the Senate.  In the years it passed in the Illinois Senate, it was killed in the House.

If the powers-that-be don’t want a piece of legislation to move – it ain’t movin. And make no mistake – liberal special interest groups, including the pro-abortion forces at NARAL and Planned Parenthood, the ACLU, and of course the LGBTQ lobby, have invested heavily in the powers-that-be.

Until we get serious about the political problem, we will continue to be relegated to playing defense.

That is why it is important that we refocus our efforts on the political front and have launched a political action committee — IFA-PAC.  We will also continue to do limited election work through Illinois Family Action, our 501(c)4 — that is until the IRS mandates new rules to render us moot.

Would you please consider making a donation to this newly formed PAC so we can help  the right men and women get elected to critical positions in Springfield?

We know what happens when those who do not support natural marriage, life at all stages, and do not care about religious freedom get elected to office. They pass laws that prevent millions of Americans to live in a way that is consistent with their faith.

Activist judges are striking down citizen approved marriage amendments and blocking pro-life laws intended to protect women and children from the harms of the abortion industry.

And far too many members of the Illinois General Assembly are willing to spend taxpayer resources we simply do not have, which is digging us further into debt and creating a depressing economic culture of  higher taxes and unemployment.  To suggest that our state political leaders have been irresponsible and bad stewards of hard-earned taxpayer resources is the understatement of the year.

Your donation will greatly help to support leading conservative candidates for office.  These candidates will work to loosen the grip of government from the lives of the people of Illinois. These candidates will also return fiscal responsibility to our state government.

Every gift, regardless of size, means we can continue to fight on your behalf.

Now is not the time to give up. The message of life is winning and more Americans now identify as pro-life than ever before. States are passing pro-life laws at unprecedented rates, abortion clinics are closing left and right, and we are closer now to ending abortion than we’ve been since Roe v. Wade in 1973.

We can continue to make gains but only if you will work with us and support our efforts.

We are comprised of many people from different backgrounds spread across this great state who may never meet one another. But we hold certain values in common that allow us to work together to achieve a common goal. The Illinois Family Institute, working through our 501c4 and this new PAC is proud to work with so many wonderful people across Illinois – like you! We ask that each of you consider how you can partner with us and support our efforts to defend your values and rights.

We appreciate any size donation and look forward to continuing to be your voice in the public square.
